Combat-proven Tactical Voice Communications System is Expanding
Springfield, Virginia – July 2014: The Tactical Voice Communications System (TVCS) developed by Cornet Technology, Inc. (CTI) is a key component of a fielded command and control (C2) system managing aircraft flying in support of combat operations. Originally fielded in 2009 in the Battlespace Command and Control Center (BC3) employed by the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) for airspace management in the Arabian Gulf region, Iraq, and Afghanistan; the TVCS fuses secure / unsecure telephones, tactical radios, and crew intercom that enables airmen, Joint, and coalition mission crewmembers to conduct air surveillance and C2 operations. An advanced version of the TVCS is being integrated into the next generation BC3 v2.0 that will soon be operational in an undisclosed location in the Arabian Gulf area.
Building on the demonstrated combat effectiveness of the BC3’s TVCS; the Air Force Lifecycle Management Center (AFLCMC), Hanscom Air Force Base, Massachusetts announced the successful completion of its test of the AN/TRC-213 v3.2. The TVCS is a key component of this mobile communications interface system that provides the USAF ground-based Control and Reporting Center (CRC) with access to over thirty-five distributed tactical UHF, VHF, HF, and SATCOM radios within any given combat theater.
"With a radar-based C2 system providing ‘eyes-on’ all Air Force, Joint, and Coalition aircraft movements in any area of operations, a 24/7/365 communications capability is what puts the teeth in operational C2,” said Wanda Whiteman, TVCS project lead. “The Air Force is better able to manage airspace over a combat area when they can simultaneously provide direction to an aircraft, coordinate with supporting agencies over secure telephone, and keep BC3 and CRC mission crew leadership aware of the operation through secure intercom.”
